Overview of Cat Diarrhea

Cats are among one of the favorite household pets. These felines are not just graceful but they are meek and gentle creatures as well. They are not harmful animals and make a perfect companion in the house. Just like any regular domestic pet, cats require care and attention.

Taking care of a pet is very much like taking care of a baby at home. They have to have their dose of vitamins and must be well-fed with nutritious food otherwise, they can grow sick and can be prone to diseases.

One of the health complications that cats may acquire is cat diarrhea. When we think it only happens to humans, such an illness also occurs to animals. Cat diarrhea is not a disease in itself, but it is a symptom of an underlying disease that the feline may be experiencing. This is nothing serious that cat owners should worry about because it is a normal and common irregularity of a cat’s health.

However, if the diarrhea becomes incessant for a longer period, the cat may be experiencing a more serious complication in its health. In cases when your cat excretes bloody stools, starts vomiting, and has labored or difficult breathing, it is best to bring the pet to the veterinarian.

When cats have diarrhea, they experience passing loose and watery feces in abnormal periods and increased volume. During this time, your cat looses fluids along with the vital nutrients like the electrolytes. There are various implications that a cat owner should be aware of when their pet suffers from cat diarrhea. Food is the primary cause of such health condition. You might have changed the cat’s diet or the pet has eaten food that is bad and indigestible which upset his stomach.

Cow’s milk which contains lactose is not good for cats since they are not tolerant to lactose and leaves it undigested in their system. Cats can be a little picky when it comes to what they eat and unlike dogs, they are not fond of feeding just about anything in their mouths, but kittens, like kids, are curious in nature that they more likely to swallow what they see on the floor.

If you own a cat at home, be responsible in taking care of your pet’s health condition. Once you notice any signs of weakness in your cat, it would be best to consult your veterinarian and have the cat checked for any health problem.
